As the American participants of the Encompass Fall 2014 program, we were given an incredible opportunity to learn about the various cultures of our newfound friends, discuss world issues and learn about ourselves.
We returned to Syracuse University determined to give back to the Encompass Program and our community by hosting a workshop to spread understanding and awareness of what’s going on in our world.
On 27th February, we held our first Encompass Workshop, “Little Me, Big World!” exploring our many differences and examining the diversity that exists right on our Syracuse University campus. We ended with a mini reception to meet and get to know people from different communities on campus.
The event went really well. We had a turn up of about 20-25 people, and they were filled with ideas and did a great job of speaking up and speaking their minds. We collected feedback from participants and found that mainly, people loved the workshop. There were some improvements to be made, and we now know what direction we want to head in for our next event. We think that we really had an effect on those who came, and that they really enjoyed it.
