ALEX BRADEN, CHAIR OF TRUSTEES

Dan’s father, Alex was founder and Chairman of an international yachting group until his retirement at the end of 2009. A keen yachtsman, Alex had travelled in Asia on several occasions with Dan and they both enjoyed being proponents of the ethic ‘work hard, play hard’. Alex had the original idea for Encompass during his return from Bali to search for Daniel after the bombing, and he remains very actively involved in all aspects of the Trust. Alex, along with Eric Appleby and other Trustees when available, continues to visit and support local Encompass Coordinators, most recently in Israel and the West Bank Palestinian Territories. Alex is very happy that so many supporters remain so committed to the work of Encompass.

ERIC APPLEBY, CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Eric first became involved with Encompass as Chief Executive in 2008; since 2017, when Encompass dispensed with paid staff, he has carried out this role in a voluntary capacity. Eric’s working life has focused on charity effectiveness, including spending 16 years as CEO of Alcohol Concern and he is now employed with Disability Law Service. He has also worked as a freelance consultant with a wide range of voluntary and statutory organisations. He has held senior positions in the key voluntary sector bodies, including serving three terms as Chair of the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO). However, none of these roles have brought either the challenges or the rewards of being involved with Encompass and the remarkable results that it achieves

CLAIRE MUTIMER, TRUSTEE

Claire is Daniel’s sister. Having lost her brother to terrorism when she was 24 , Claire became hugely involved in setting up Encompass along with her family, as a positive way to remember Dan. In the early days, she often went on voyages with Encompass. Claire has been involved in the development of Encompass through the years and has tried to remain a committed trustee despite moving away to Norfolk, marrying a farmer and having a few children. Claire has had a career in television and now has her own company Tin Shed Productions that produces podcasts. The in-house podcast that they make is called The Backstory which tells the stories of life changing events that have happened in people’s lives. Obviously one of the biggest events that happened in Claire’s life was losing her brother – but she hopes that the experience of taking part in an Encompass journey is one of the life-changing events that happen in participants lives – allowing people to not just know about what they have grown up with – but what they can become.

AYESHA CARMOUCHE, TRUSTEE

Ayesha is a former Encompass alumna, having taken part in Encompass’ Journey of Understanding programme in 2012. Ayesha works as a Senior Parliamentary and Stakeholder Engagement Adviser for England’s health and social care regulator, Care Quality Commission. She is also an ambassador for the European Youth Awards, a pan-European movement of young innovators developing digital projects, with a ‘social good’ edge.

He has extensive experience of charities and has been chairman of a mental health charity, a social care charity and a housing association. He has also had a lifelong interest in international issues and was a member of CND executive committee and the Liberal Democrats defence policy group.
